Background & Experience
Derin Kenny is an Evanston, IL based harpist and harp teacher. She holds Masters in Music and Bachelors in Music degrees from Northwestern University, where she studied under Chicago Lyric Opera Harpist Elizabeth Cifani. While studying at Northwestern, Derin developed a passion for creating and sharing new ideas during her pedagogy classes. She tries to incorporate creative and innovative ways to help every student learn in a way that makes the most sense to them.
Derin is a faculty member at the Music Institute of Chicago and maintains her own private teaching studio. Derin is also a registered Suzuki harp instructor, having completed her Suzuki Book I, II, and IV Teacher Training under the tutelage of Delaine Fedson. She grew up learning the Suzuki method under Minnesota Orchestra Principal Harpist Kathy Kienzle.
When not teaching, Derin freelances at weddings, parties, with orchestras, and more.
