Background & Experience

John Ringor is a Chicago-based percussionist and educator. As a soloist he has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as winner of their Young Artists Competition, appeared on NPR’s From the Top, and participated in the 2016 TROMP International Percussion Competition in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. As a chamber musician he has performed with the Northwestern University Percussion Ensemble at the 2017 Percussive Arts Society International Convention, worked with Steve Reich on his pieces Music for 18 Musicians, City Life, and Mallet Quartet, and performed with the International Contemporary Ensemble on Drew Baker’s NOX. He has also performed as an extra with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The Northbrook Symphony Orchestra,The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, and The Hudson Valley Philharmonic. As a teacher he holds faculty positions at Midwest Young Artists Conservatory and the Merit School of Music. He holds a BM and MM from the Manhattan School of Music and Northwestern University respectively.
