I'm a jazz drummer, pianist, guitarist, and piano tuner living in Highwood.
I've studied jazz drumming, harmony, and piano tuning for most of my life from my father Rick Shandling. I studied jazz piano at Alan Swain music studio and earned my BA in music performance from UIC in 2010 where I focused on jazz drums with Ernie Adams.
I've had lots of playing experience with Frank Catalano, side man work in many genres, and composing for and leading my own bands. I'm friends with MYA faculty Dan Pierson and Drew Hansen; we've played some gigs together too.
I have 20 years of experience teaching private and group lessons at Anderson Musik in Northbrook, at CROYA at the Lake Forest Rec center, several Montessori schools, and in private homes.
I’ve also had 20 years of piano tuning experience working. I work with my parents tuning pianos for Chicago jazz fest, Harold Washington library, Columbia, college, People’s school of music, Chicago public schools, various other locations and private homes.
