Colin Oldberg is the former Principal Trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, where he performed under Maestro Edo de Waart. During his time there, he had the pleasure to perform several solos with the orchestra, including the Haydn Trumpet Concerto for a subscription concert. He also performed Joe Hisaishi's Solo Trumpet version of Laputa: Castle in the Sky, which can be seen here!! -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNHfyPSvqwc
Colin devotes a large part of his time to teaching - and loves it!! He was on the faculty at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts (2011-12), and is a current faculty member of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (http://www.bu.edu/cfa/tanglewood/), but is equally at home teaching children and adults of all ages and levels of ability. Colin firmly believes that absolutely anyone can learn to play the trumpet well, it just takes correct practice and perseverance. Along with his private studio, Colin frequently coaches trumpet ensembles at Midwest Young Artists (www.mya.org).
Colin is also a regular substitute with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, where he has appeared under, among others, Bernard Haitink, Pierre Boulez, and Riccardo Muti. He was also a regular member of the Civic Orchestra and subs regularly with the Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra.
