Katie Keefe (Hurst) resides in Seattle, Washington as a percussion performer, arranger, and teacher. She began her career in music education in 2001. Katie has a bachelors of Music Performance from the University of Washington, where she received the Milnora Roberts Scholarship as well as the Catch A Rising Star Endowment Fund. In 2007, Katie completed classes for her Masters in Music Performance at the University of Washington where she was the recipient of the prestigious Brechemin Scholarship.
Katie has performed with various ensembles as a percussionist, taking her on eight US tours and three tours of Japan, most recently as a featured performer in Odyssey Brass Theatre. She has worked with several schools in the greater Seattle area including Kamiak High School, Auburn High School, Bainbridge Island High School, and Auburn Riverside High School. Keefe's private studio students have won countless scholarships and awards, including consistently placing within the top 3 at state.
Katie has a strong drum corps background and has been a member of Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps (1998-99), Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps (2000-2001), and the Santa Clara Vanguard (2002-2004.) While with Vanguard, she collected several titles as a member of the winning percussion ensemble in 2002, winning mixed ensemble in 2003, and winning first in percussion, also know as the Fred Sanford Drum Trophy in 2004. Katie was the front ensemble technician of the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2005 season, which placed 5th with her arrangement
of "The Sunken Cathedral" for percussion ensemble.
When not teaching, performing, or composing, Katie enjoys spending time with her son and husband, baking, gardening, and enjoying West Seattle.
