Background And Experience

Born in Murray, Kentucky, J. Andrew Miller began his violin training at the age of 14 in the local high school orchestra. Two years later he began his private training at Murray State University and soon after was selected to participate in the Kentucky All-State Commonwealth String Orchestra. He has studied with Dr. Frederick Ripley, Dr. Sue-Jean Park, Vincent Frittelli, and Karen Clarke. He has played master classes for other notable violinists including Dr. Scott Conklin, faculty at the University of Iowa, David Kim, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, David Halen, concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony, and Ricardo Cyncynates, assistant concertmaster of the National Symphony.
An avid teacher, Miller has served as the ensemble director for the Murray State String Project, been creator and faculty at JAM Strings Camp, and maintained a successful private studio with students from Western Kentucky and Central Tennessee, some of whom have gone on to be accepted into the Gatton Academy and Pre-college strings program at Western Kentucky University and the Pre-college Music Program at Blair School of Music, Vanderbilt University.
As an orchestral player, Miller served as concertmaster of the Murray State Symphony Orchestra served as a member of the Paducah Symphony Orchestra in Paducah, Kentucky, and a substitute for the Jackson Symphony Orchestra in Jackson, Tennessee.
Miller holds a Bachelor's of Music degree in violin performance from Murray State University and certificate of completion from the Sassmannhaus Tradition Teacher Training, under the direction of renowned pedagogue Professor Kurt Sassmannhaus. Currently, he has shifted his musical education to Chicago,Illinois and is pursuing a Masters Degree at DePaul University, where he has received a violin performance scholarship to study with Dr. Olga Kaler.
