Background And Experience

Named first violinist of the Harrington String Quartet in 2007, Tomas Cotik teaches on the faculty of West Texas A&M University and is the concertmaster of Amarillo Symphony Orchestra.

As a chamber musician he has played recitals in Germany, Holland, Canada, USA, Argentina and Japan. He participated in more than 15 international music festivals in Europe working under the guidance of the Vermeer, Tokyo and Endellion String Quartets, as well as notable artists, including Midori, Christian Tetzlaff, Ana Chumachenko Heinz Holliger, Leon Fleisher and the leaders of Vienna, Berlin, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland and San Francisco Symphony.

Mr. Cotik has collaborated with members from the Cleveland, Miami, Pro Arte and Vogler String Quartets among others.

A former member and rotating principal of the New World Symphony, Tomas Cotik holds a Bachelor and Master in Music from the Freiburg University of Music in Germany and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School in Toronto. He studied with Nicolas Chumachenco and Lorand Fenyves.

He has performed with several internationally prominent conductors such as Michael Tilson Thomas, Valery Gergiev, Roberto Abbado, Yakov Kreizberg, Marin Alsop, Stephan Deneve, Roger Norrington and Robert Spano at important venues including Carnegie Hall.

Tomas is a first prize winner at the National Broadcast Music Competition in his native Argentina in 1997 and the Government of Canada Award for 2003-2005.

In the 2008-2009 season Mr. Cotik has appeared as a soloist in Amarillo, Miami and Toronto and present recitals for solo violin as well as duos for violin and piano in the U.S. The Harrington String Quartet has recently recorded the Mendelssohn Quintets with James Dunham.

Nombrado primer violín del Harrington String Quartet en 2007, Tomas Cotik enseña en la Universidad West Texas A & M y es el concertino de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Amarillo.
