Background & Experience
Joseph Rodriguez is the first trombonist to receive the prestigious Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School. Mr. Rodriguez is now an active performer, soloist and clinician in Chicago. He is the principal trombonist for the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, and Kenosha Symphony and is on faculty at Northern Illinois University, Concordia University and Wheaton College Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Rodriguez has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Philadelphia Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, Grant Park Orchestra, Fulcrum Point New Music Project, Elgin and South Bend Symphonies, and the renowned Juilliard Orchestra. As a soloist, he was recently chosen to represent the United States at the Kyoto International Music Students Festival in Kyoto, Japan. He had the privilege of performing the Mozart Requiem in Carnegie Hall for the fifth year commemoration of 9/11. Mr. Rodriguez played in the world premiere performance and recording of Shulamit RanÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Fault Line, a chamber work commissioned by the Chicago SymphonyÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s MusicNOW series. He was selected as a participant for the prestigious 2005 and 2007 Alessi Seminar, an intensive 10 day seminar where top trombonists around the world study with the master teacher Joseph Alessi. He has also participated in the National Orchestral Institute and the Brevard Music Center. From 2003 to 2006 Mr. Rodriguez was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has worked with world-class conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Leonard Slatkin, David Robertson, Roberto Minczuk, Pinchas Zukerman and Michael Stern. As a jazz musician, Mr. Rodriguez has toured Germany, France, The Netherlands and Switzerland in 2001 and 1999 with the UTA Jazz Orchestra. He has performed with Tony Bennett and on one occasion for former IllinoisÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Governor Rod Blagojevich. Mr. Rodriguez has given master classes at DePaul University, Northern Illinois University, Del Mar College and Olivet Nazarene University.
Mr. Rodriguez holds a Master of Music Degree from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. His primary teachers include Joseph Alessi, Mark Fisher, Jay Friedman, Charles Vernon, Darren McHenry, Dennis Bubert, and Andrew Russell.
