Chuck Sloka is a musician in the Chicagoland area who is active in many different areas. While at DePaul University he received a Bachelor in Jazz Studies. Mr. Sloka performed trombone in the DePaul Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band, Jazz Combos and Basketball Band performing principal/lead parts in all groups. He continued his education at Northern Illinois University while playing in the world-renowned Northern Illinois University Jazz Band.
He performed one summer at Disneyland with the All-American College Band, which is comprised of the nationÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s finest college musicians. While in California he had the opportunity to perform with many studio and jazz greats. After graduating from DePaul he performed in Yokohama, Japan with other American and Japanese musicians for the 1989 Yokohama Exposition.
While completing his collegiate studies, Mr. Sloka has also pursued professional opportunities. He performed with the Christ Church of Oak Brook Brass Ensembles for almost 20 years and has been commissioned to arrange many pieces for brass groups. He was music director at Christ Church of Long Grove for three years overseeing the various church groups for services and other special performances. For the past 20 years Mr. Sloka has freelanced in the Chicagoland area with a number of other brass ensembles, orchestras, concert bands, jazz bands, jazz combos and top-40/rock-and-roll bands. Mr. Sloka is also active as an arranger, transcriber, copyist and composer of brass ensemble, jazz band and top-40/pop music.
He has over 20 years experience as a private teacher for junior high and high school students who play trombone, baritone, euphonium, tuba, cornet and trumpet. He stresses fundamentals and good playing habits while ensuring his students are prepared with school and contest music and is always taking opportunities to challenge his students to improve.
