Sage Degand started her music career in elementary school with guitar and alto saxophone. Once in high school, this was expanded to numerous other instruments. With experience in composing and performing popular music, she then began advanced piano lessons and composing classical music. Degand has many years of performance experience, and has recently won awards for her performances and compositions. Degand studied composition last summer with Dr. Philip Lasser of Juilliard at La Schola Cantorum in Paris, France, where her String Quartet No.1 - Attica composition was premiered.
Next year she is planning to take a gap year to further her private studies and teach, then is applying for further scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music and for general acceptance at Juilliard. At the moment, she is focused on studying tonal harmony and composition with Dr. Philip Lasser. While she enjoys playing and performing on saxophone, piano, cello, oboe, and bassoon, her future will be concentrated on the study of composition and harmony. On the saxophone she has won and placed in multiple regional and one national competition. And in composition she has won and placed in regional and national competitions and is an attendee of the European American Musical Alliance composition program. She has taught saxophone, cello, and music theory for 2 years, and is currently looking for composition students to teach over Skype. In the Fall, she will be taking students in home.
