I have studied jazz for many years, and have explored many other idioms that allow me to play and teach music from a broader perspective. I like to work with students on things that interest them. If you come to me with a piece of music, whether it is John Coltrane or Sufjan Stevens, I will help you to learn about it and how to play it! I am eager to see students excited about music. I can teach all saxophones, but also can teach improvisation, ear-training, and composition.
As a performer, I have played many gigs on the East Coast and in Chicagoland at venues like Dizzy's Club Coca Cola at Lincoln Center and the Jazz Showcase, as well as in Cathedrals in France and basements in Boston. These performances range from straight-ahead jazz, to free-improvisational music, to Gregorian chant and Indian music. I also write, perform, and record my own music.
