Experience: I have been teaching flute, piano, and violin in the greater Pittsburgh area for four years. My students have ranged in age from 4 to 60 and include beginner - advanced flute students, beginner - intermediate piano students, and beginner violin students. In addition to teaching experience, I have 10 years of performance experience under my belt to share with students. I am experienced in a wide variety of ensembles including: classical/orchestral, chamber music, contemporary ensembles, flute quartet, musicals, jazz combos, folk bands, traditional Irish music, and free improvisation accompanying poetry or narrative.
My teaching approach is to match repertoire work to the student's current needs. For example, a student who needs to work on building dexterity will be working on technical exercises while another student may be focusing on tone or dynamic expression in their weekly exercises. In addition to technique building studies, I also collaborate with students to work on repertoire they find fun and engaging whether that be classical, jazz, pop, or any other genre. I believe working on music that the student genuinely enjoys encourages practice and imparts a love of music that will last a lifetime.
My current teaching locations include Waddell's Music Center in Wexford, PA, and my home studio in Millvale, PA. I am accepting new students at either location, or in some cases can travel to the students home.
Education: I hold a degree in music performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
